Swirl Marks and Minor Scratches on Your Paint? Here's What's Actually Going On
Swirl marks are probably the most common paint problem we see — and most people don’t even know where they came from.
They usually come from automatic car washes with dirty brushes. Or from wiping down a dusty car with a dry cloth. Or from using cheap microfibre towels that haven’t been washed properly. The bristles or fibres drag fine particles of dirt across the paint at speed and leave tiny scratches — sometimes hundreds of them across every panel.
In direct sunlight, those fine scratches catch the light from every angle and make the paint look hazy and dull. It’s not a wax problem. It’s not a product problem. The scratches are physically in the clear coat, and the only way to remove them is to machine polish them out.
That’s exactly what our Cut and Buff Polish does. We use a rotary or dual-action machine polisher with a cutting compound to gently abrade the top layer of clear coat — removing the scratches — and then buff it back to a high gloss finish.
