You know that feeling when you drive past a car wash and think “maybe next week”? Then one day you actually look at your car and realize the paint looks dull, there’s bird droppings everywhere, and you can’t even remember what color it used to be. Happens to all of us here in Edgewater and around Joondalup.
The thing is, most quick washes around Joondalup don’t actually clean your car properly – they just push dirt around with not enough water pressure and use the wrong stuff for our sticky summer grime or winter mud. We started Diamond Wash car wash Joondalup at Fabulous Car Care because we got tired of seeing mates pay good money for washes that didn’t last. Our place at Edgewater near Joondalup Gate does things different. We take our time, we use the right products for Perth weather, and we don’t rush through your car like you’re just another number.

This is our most popular service for smaller cars. Takes about 50 minutes because we don’t rush it. We hand wash every panel, get into all the trim pieces where dirt hides, and dry it properly so there’s no water spots. Your Corolla or Mazda3 or whatever you drive will look showroom fresh.
The detergents we use are pH balanced – which just means they won’t strip your wax or damage your clear coat. We change our wash buckets between cars (yeah, some places don’t do that) and use soft microfiber mitts that won’t scratch. Cost is $79 and honestly it’s worth every cent when you see the results.
Got a Rav4 or Outback? These mid-size vehicles need a bit more time and product, but same attention to detail. We get up on ladders to reach the roof properly – sounds simple but you’d be surprised how many places miss the top completely.
A lot of our Edgewater customers have these family wagons that haul kids to sports, groceries from Joondalup Centro, beach gear to Hillarys. They get pretty grubby. We make sure to clean the door jambs and behind the mirrors where sand and salt builds up.
Takes about 50 minutes and costs $89. The extra ten bucks compared to sedans? That’s because there’s just more car to clean.
If you drive a Landcruiser, Patrol, or one of those big Klugers, you know how much surface area needs cleaning. These vehicles take more product, more water, and more elbow grease, especially if you’ve been up north or on the beach.
We see a lot of these around here – Perth people love their 4WDs. Problem is most car washes either can’t handle them properly or charge crazy prices. We do it right for $99, takes 50 minutes, and we get all that red dirt off without damaging your paint.
The wheel wells on these things collect so much crud. We spray them out first, then do the full wash, then go back and detail the wheels separate. Makes a huge difference.
This is for the really big rigs – American trucks, large commercial vans, or full-size Patrols. These need special treatment and way more time. We do the full exterior wash plus we clean the entire interior. Vacuum, wipe down all surfaces, clean the windows inside and out, the whole deal.
Takes about an hour and 30 minutes, costs $149. If you’ve got a Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado, you know these don’t fit in regular car washes. We’ve got the space and equipment to handle them.
Inside we get all the dirt out of the carpets, clean the dash without leaving streaks, do the door panels and center console. By the time we’re done, it smells good and looks good.
Most car washes around Joondalup use the same tired equipment and the same cheap soap. Then they wonder why your car looks worse after a few washes. The problem is usually one of three things: not enough water pressure (so dirt just moves around instead of coming off), wrong chemicals (like using summer soap in winter when you need something stronger for mud), or equipment that breaks down all the time.
We fixed all that by investing in proper gear that actually works. Our water pressure is set right for Perth’s hard water, we change our soap mix based on the season, and we maintain our equipment every week so it doesn’t randomly stop working on your car.
The other thing? We’re locals. We live in Edgewater, we drive these same roads, we deal with the same dust from construction sites on Joondalup Drive. When we clean your car, we’re cleaning it the way we’d want our own cars done.
We use a two-bucket system – one for soap, one for rinsing the mitt. This keeps dirt from going back on your car. Fresh microfiber towels for every car. No recycled water – everything is fresh and filtered.
The soap is professional grade, not the stuff you buy at Supercheap. It smells good, cleans better, and doesn’t harm your paint or plastic trim. We’ve got different formulas for different seasons and different types of dirt.
Our pressure washers are adjustable. We can turn them down for delicate areas like badges and trim, or turn them up for wheel wells and undercarriage. The automatic washes just blast everything at the same pressure – that’s how stuff gets broken.
Summer here means bugs and dust. We adjust our pre-wash for that. Winter means salt spray and that green algae that grows on cars parked outside. We adjust for that too. Spring is pollen season and that yellow stuff sticks like glue – needs hot water and specific chemicals.
Down near the coast in Sorrento or Burns Beach, you get extra salt spray. That stuff corrodes everything if you don’t wash it off regular. We use special products to neutralize salt and protect your paint.

We fix mistakes all the time. Someone goes to a cheap automatic wash and comes out with scratches all over their black paint. Or they go somewhere that uses harsh chemicals and now their trim is faded and chalky.
The worst is when equipment malfunctions and nobody stops the wash. We had a customer once who got stuck in an automatic bay and the brushes just kept spinning against his car. By the time he got out, the clear coat was damaged. Cost him $1000s to fix.
Or places that don’t maintain their equipment – broken nozzles that spray everywhere, old brushes that hold dirt and scratch your paint, recycled water that’s full of grit. You can’t see this stuff till it’s too late.
Automatic car washes are convenient, we get it. Drive in, sit there for 3 minutes, drive out. But here’s what happens – those brushes touch hundreds of cars a day. All that dirt gets trapped in the bristles. Then it gets dragged across your paint.
The chemicals in automatic washes are super strong because they need to work fast. That means they’re harsher on your paint, your trim, your rubber seals.
Hand washing means we can see what we’re doing. If there’s bird dropping that’s stuck on, we can soak it first instead of just scrubbing it and scratching your paint. If your wheels are really dirty, we can spend extra time on them.
Plus we can feel when something’s wrong – like a loose piece of trim that might fall off. We’ll let you know before it becomes a problem.
When you come to us at Fabulous Car Care instead of some chain car wash, your money stays local. We employ people from around here. We use local suppliers when we can. We sponsor the junior footy team.
Small businesses make the community better. We know our customers’ names, we remember what kind of car they drive, we ask how the family is. Try getting that from a franchise.
“How long does it take?”
Depends on what service you get. Sedans and hatchbacks are 50 minutes, bigger vehicles are 50 minutes, the full in and out is an hour and a half. We don’t rush.
“Can I wait?”
Yeah, there’s a waiting area. Bring your phone or a book. We’ve got Wi-Fi.
“What if it’s already damaged?”
We’ll point it out before we start so there’s no confusion. We clean cars, we don’t fix dents. But we can recommend someone who does.
“Do you do the undercarriage?”
On the big washes yeah, we spray under there. Gets all the sand and salt out.
Been washing cars in this area for years now. Started small, just me and one other guy. Now we’ve got a proper setup and a team that actually cares about doing good work.
Most of our business comes from people telling their friends. Someone brings their car in, we do a good job, they tell their neighbor. That’s how you know we’re doing something right – people don’t recommend dodgy car washes.
We’re not trying to be the cheapest. We’re trying to be the best. There’s a difference. Cheap means corners get cut. We don’t cut corners.
Regular washing is essential, especially in Perth’s climate. Summer brings bugs and dust that require immediate attention, while winter salt spray and algae buildup near coastal areas like Sorrento and Burns Beach can corrode your vehicle if not washed regularly. Spring pollen also sticks stubbornly and needs prompt removal to protect your paint.
Hand washing beats automatic car washes because it allows for careful attention to detail and prevents damage. Automatic wash brushes touch hundreds of cars daily, trapping dirt in the bristles that then gets dragged across your paint, while the harsh chemicals needed for quick cleaning can damage your paint, trim, and rubber seals. Hand washing lets you soak stubborn spots like bird droppings first instead of scrubbing them and scratching your paint.
Automatic car washes have several drawbacks that can damage your vehicle. The brushes trap dirt from hundreds of cars and drag it across your paint causing scratches, especially on black cars. The chemicals are super strong to work quickly, making them harsher on paint, trim, and rubber seals. Equipment malfunctions can also occur with no one stopping the wash, potentially causing thousands of dollars in clear coat damage.
The two-bucket system is the gold standard for proper car washing – one bucket for soap and one for rinsing your mitt, which keeps dirt from going back onto your car. Use fresh microfiber towels for every vehicle, adjust water pressure for different areas (lower for delicate badges and trim, higher for wheel wells), and change wash buckets between cars to prevent cross-contamination. Professional-grade pH-balanced detergents protect your wax and clear coat better than consumer products.
Your car needs washing when the paint looks dull, there are visible contaminants like bird droppings everywhere, or you notice dirt buildup in door jambs and behind mirrors where sand and salt accumulates. Different seasons bring different problems – summer bugs and dust, winter salt spray and algae, or spring pollen that sticks like glue all indicate it’s time for a wash.
The best car wash option depends on your vehicle size and needs. For sedans and hatchbacks, a thorough 50-minute hand wash covers every panel and trim piece. Larger vehicles like wagons, SUVs, and 4WDs require more time and product for proper cleaning, especially for hard-to-reach areas like roofs and wheel wells. The most comprehensive option includes both exterior washing and complete interior detailing for maximum results.
Too many washes aren’t bad for your car if done properly with pH-balanced detergents that won’t strip your wax or damage your clear coat. The problem occurs when wrong chemicals are used or when harsh automatic wash chemicals are applied too frequently. Using professional-grade products and proper hand washing techniques means you can wash as often as needed without harming your vehicle’s finish.
YWater spots typically occur when cars aren’t dried properly after washing, especially with Perth’s hard water. Proper drying technique using fresh microfiber towels immediately after washing prevents water spots from forming. Taking time to dry every panel thoroughly rather than rushing through the process eliminates this common problem.
